Michael Patrick Lynch broni prawdy obiektywnej jako jednej z podstawowych wartości w życiu każdego człowieka. Konstruuje „cztery truizmy” o prawdzie, dzięki którym diagnozuje źródła naszego cynizmu w stosunku do jej wartości. Jednocześnie przekonuje, dlaczego właśnie teraz – w świecie, w którym media, politycy i biznesmeni zniekształcają rzeczywistość – prawda powinna być dla nas szczególnie ważna.
Cynizm wobec wartości prawdy zawsze będzie w interesie możnych. Kiedy różnica między tym, co jest, a co nie jest prawdziwe, zaczyna wydawać się mniej istotna albo mniej uchwytna, narracja dyktatora, skrajnego nacjonalisty bądź tyrana, staje się bardziej uwodzicielska. Opowieści władzy, o czym wiedzieli Orwell, Arendt i Miłosz, są często przebrane za głos rozsądku. A teraz mogą być przebrane za głos waszego przyjaciela, którego echo dochodzi z portalu Facebook. W rzeczywistości nie są jednak żadnym z tych głosów. To dlatego zrozumienie filozoficznych korzeni prawdy i naszych błędnych mniemań o niej jest nadal ważne, ważniejsze niż kiedykolwiek.

Michael Patrick Lynch (ur.1966). Ceniony amerykański filozof, dyrektor Instytutu Humanistyki na Uniwersytecie Connecticut. Jego zainteresowania badawcze oscylują wokół zagadnień prawdy, epistemologii, polityki i etyki nowych technologii.
Lynch jest zwolennikiem pluralistycznego modelu prawdy – pluralizmu aletycznego - zgodnie z którym istnieje wiele własności prawdy, a każda z nich może spełniać kryteria prawdziwości.
