Publikacja dotyczy przystosowania rodziców do spektrum autyzmu lub padaczki u ich dziecka. Zawiera prezentację badań własnych autorki, przeprowadzonych z udziałem 273 rodziców dzieci w wieku 2-6 lat (rodziców dzieci ze spektrum autyzmu, rodziców dzieci z padaczką oraz rodziców dzieci bez zdiagnozowanej niepełnosprawności). Celem opracowania było określenie, które czynniki są związane z przystosowaniem rodziców do niepełnosprawności u ich dziecka (spektrum autyzmu lub padaczki) z wykorzystaniem założeń podwójnego modelu ABCX. Istotne było poszukiwanie zasobów, które mogą sprzyjać lepszemu przystosowaniu. Przeprowadzone złożone analizy statystyczne potwierdziły założenia podwójnego modelu ABCX, wykazując, że dezadaptacyjne strategie radzenia sobie ze stresem, afekt, a także uczucia rodzicielskie pełnią rolę pośredniczącą w relacji nasilenia objawów ASD/częstości napadów padaczkowych u dziecka i poziomu adaptacji rodziców. Otrzymane wyniki dostarczają niezwykle interesujących informacji na temat uwarunkowań procesu adaptacji rodziców do niepełnosprawności u dziecka, wskazując na konieczność prowadzenia dalszych badań w tym obszarze, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem pozytywnych aspektów rodzicielstwa. Uzyskane wyniki mają także znaczenie praktyczne, w kontekście planowania interwencji skierowanych do rodziców dzieci z ASD i rodziców dzieci z padaczką. Pozwalają uwzględnić czynniki istotnie związane z adaptacją do niepełnosprawności u dziecka, w tym czynniki ochronne. Zwracają także uwagę na konieczność obejmowania pomocą zarówno matek, jak i ojców dzieci z niepełnosprawnością (zarówno ze spektrum autyzmu, jak i chorych na padaczkę).
