Współczesne otoczenie rynkowe charakteryzuje się wysokim poziomem niepewności: ekonomicznej, społecznej, technologicznej czy politycznej, co wymusza na przedsiębiorcach elastyczne podejście do podejmowania decyzji. W takich warunkach stosowanie jedynie metod opartych o prognozowanie okazuje się być dla współczesnych przedsiębiorców niewystarczające. Coraz częściej zwraca się uwagę na dwie logiki decyzyjne: kauzalną, opartą na planowaniu, oraz efektuacyjną, opartą na elastycznym wykorzystaniu dostępnych zasobów. Szczególne znaczenie efektuacja ma w kontekście mikro i małych przedsiębiorstw, które funkcjonują przy ograniczonych zasobach i muszą reagować adaptacyjnie. Mimo rosnącego zainteresowania efektuacją, w literaturze istnieją luki poznawcze dotyczące jej zastosowania w późniejszych fazach rozwoju firm oraz jej wpływu na wyniki operacyjne. Celem monografii jest zbadanie wpływu warunków otoczenia i fazy rozwoju firmy na podejście decyzyjne mikro i małych przedsiębiorców. Sformułowano pytania badawcze oraz hipotezy dotyczące zależności między poziomem niepewności, fazą rozwoju, podejściem decyzyjnym i wynikami firm. Badanie przeprowadzono metodą CATI wśród 412 polskich przedsiębiorców. Struktura publikacji obejmuje: teoretyczne podstawy niepewności i decyzji, metodykę badawczą oraz analizę wyników. W zakończeniu przedstawiono wnioski, praktyczne implikacje oraz kierunki przyszłych badań.
