The article discusses the characteristics of the characters in the work of Hamsun’s Hunger and Przybyszewski’s
Scream whose life is based on illusion and dreams. The writers created a similar vision of the
world based on the border situation in which they found themselves as two men (nameless with famine
and Gasztowt with Scream). It is also one of the first attempts in the literature to describe biological hunger,
which has been for reported mainly as a hunger or aesthetic. The characters of both novels are artists,
accompanied by the failure of poverty. The writers showed that multiple artists transform their lives in
martyrdom for the creation of art, which frequently leads them to destruction.
