The Psychology of the Teenage Brain
Dlaczego nastolatkowie chodzą późno spać i mają problem z porannym wstawaniem? Czy rzeczywiście częściej ryzykują? Co się dzieje z ich hormonami?
Psychologia mózgu nastolatka to pozycja dla wszystkich osób zaangażowanych w życie nastolatków, umożliwiająca wgląd w to, co dzieje się w nastoletnich umysłach i wyjaśniająca, w jaki sposób zrozumienie owych procesów może poprawić relacje i komunikację na tym kluczowym etapie życia. Zawiera omówienie najistotniejszych zagadnień dotyczących między innymi sposobu, w jaki mózg zmienia się w okresie dojrzewania, roli hormonów oraz tego, co wiemy na temat stresu i odporności, a także snu i presji rówieśniczej. Autor publikacji podaje w wątpliwość stereotyp „pokolenia płatków śniegu” i stara się lepiej poznać zdrowie psychiczne młodych ludzi.
Książka ta, dedykowana wszystkim rodzicom i opiekunom, stanowi pomoc w pokonywaniu wyzwań związanych z codziennym życiem z nastolatkiem. Jest ona również źródłem istotnej wiedzy dla studentów i praktykujących specjalistów, takich jak pracownicy socjalni, psychologowie czy osoby zatrudnione w służbie zdrowia i placówkach edukacyjnych, którzy na co dzień stykają się z nastolatkami.
John Coleman zdobył wykształcenie jako psycholog kliniczny i był starszym pracownikiem naukowym na Uniwersytecie Oksfordzkim. Jest założycielem ośrodka badawczego zajmującego się nastolatkami i ich rodzinami. Prowadził również szkołę dla nastolatków doświadczających trudności oraz pracował dla rządu jako doradca polityczny. W 2001 roku za swoją służbę młodym ludziom został odznaczony Orderem Imperium Brytyjskiego.
