Sleep, Dream and the Other World in the Literature — Introduction to the Monograph
The study is divided into six parts. The first, brings closer in draft elaborated from the literature studies
the researches analysisover the given in the title three issues. The second part, describes the motives
of sleep, dream and the other world in the literature from the Bible to the end of the Baroque, paying
attention to the manner of their interpreting by the most important writers (Ovid, Virgil, Cicero, Johannes
Dantiscus, Marcin Bielski, Jan Kochanowski, Stanisław Herakliusz Lubomirski). In the way of
functioning sleep, dream and the other world in the literature to the end of the Baroque especially influenced
their image in the Holy Bible and The Metamorphoses of Ovid, as well as The Odyssey of Homer. On
the other rand, third part of the study evokes chosen examples of the motives’use in the literature from
the Enlightenment to the Modern times. In this time three main titled issues were perceived in a pursuit
to recognise human’s psychology, for that attempt appeared wit time a useful apparatus from the field
of psychoanalysis and depth psychology. The fourth part presents sleep, dream and the other world in
the proverbs. The fifth part describes the conference, which was the starting point for preparation of the
current monograph attempt. The last part are acknowledgments addressed to the people engaged in the
project: the conference and the publication.
