Dantean Słowacki. Two Wanders in the Search of the Body
The article is an attempt to interpretation of two Juliusz Słowacki’s poems: Poema Piasta Dantyszka
herbu Leliwa o piekle and Król-Duch. Both of them are connected with the motive of travelling to netherworld.
First part of the article concerns the poem about the nobleman Piast Dantyszek and his travel to
the moon’s hell, which is frantic, carnal, sensual and painful. This poem is a creative adaptation of The
Divine Comedy. The second part is an interpretation of Król-Duch that is a poem in the style of Dante in
essentia. The aim of the article is to describe a carnality in Juliusz Słowacki’s output connected with Dante
and his masterpiece and interpretation of the role of the body in two travels: the trip of Piast Dantyszek
to hell and metaphysical peregrination of Król Duch.
