Scientific Schools and Research Directions at the Faculty of Economics and Sociology, University of Łódź

The jubilee monograph Scientific Schools and Research Directions at the Faculty of Economics and Sociology, University of Łódź: The Present and the Future has been prepared to mark the 60th anniversary of the Faculty of Economics and Sociology of the University of Łódź—one of the most interdisciplinary academic units in Poland. The publication summarizes the Faculty’s scientific, research, and teaching achievements between 2015 and 2025, highlighting its development in the context of transformations in higher education. The editors and authors of the chapters describing the activities of individual institutes emphasize the continuity of scientific traditions combined with openness to new research areas, international collaboration, and the implementation of innovative teaching methods. The monograph presents eight institutes operating within the Faculty, describing their structure, leading research directions, cooperation with the socio-economic environment, contributions to the development of economic and sociological sciences, and the scholarly achievements of individual researchers. The publication also underscores the Faculty’s role as a hub integrating various scientific schools, educating students in over twenty study programmes, and maintaining broad cooperation with external partners. The work discusses the challenges faced by universities in 2025. The monograph thus serves not only as a summary of six decades of the Faculty’s activities but also as an inspiration for reflection on the future of science and the role of universities in a world undergoing rapid transformation.
