The article addresses the problem of infectious diseases in the Łódź ghetto and the measures taken by the Jewish ghetto administration to prevent their spread. The aim is to demonstrate the effectiveness of the Jewish administration, which, despite limited preventive measures, managed to curb the spread of disease. The research is based on source material mainly from the State Archives in Łódź, the Daily Chronicle written in the ghetto, and personal documents in the form of diaries and memoirs.

The sanitary conditions in the ghetto were a subject of interest to the occupation authorities, which manifested itself, among other things, in the need to report on them. For the Jewish administration, the order to maintain cleanliness and prevent disease became another element in the struggle for survival. The first part of the article discusses the institutions established to combat infectious diseases and the preventive and reactive measures they took, while the second part traces, in chronological order, the most important cases of epidemics that broke out in the ghetto, including statistics.

Była członkiem zespołu opracowującego „Leksykon getta łódzkiego”, realizowany w ramach Narodowego Programu Rozwoju Humanistyki. Kieruje projektem „Działalność Haszomer Hacair w okupowanej Polsce 1939–1945” realizowanego przy wsparciu finansowym Claims Conference.
