Katarzyna de Lazari-Radek przeprowadza współczesną obronę hedonizmu, biorąc pod uwagę argumenty filozoficzne, neuronaukowe i psychologiczne. Stawia śmiałą tezę, że przyjemność to stan mentalny, który sam w sobie jest „godny pożądania”. Porusza zagadnienia: dobrostanu, szczęścia, dobrego życia, wartości i perfekcjonizmu. Podejmuje też polemikę z takimi filozofami, jak Robert Nozick, Gilbert Ryle i Fred Feldman.
Życie człowieka może być dobre na wiele sposobów. Można być wybitną pianistką, której chcą słuchać ludzie na całym świecie, najlepszym kucharzem, który dostał kolejną gwiazdkę Michelin, podziwianą pięknością, której pożąda wielu mężczyzn. Czy jest coś wspólnego tym różnym drogom dobrego życia, co pozwala nam dokonać pozytywnej oceny, nawet jeśli jest ona ograniczona tylko do pewnego jego aspektu? Kiedy możemy powiedzieć o naszym własnym życiu, że jest dobre? Co jest naszym dobrostanem i w jaki sposób mamy go realizować w naszym życiu? Będę bronić tezy, że tym, co dla nas ostatecznie dobre, jest przyjemność rozumiana jako godny pożądania stan świadomości.

Katarzyna de Lazari-Radek (ur.1975) Etyczka i filozofka, pracuje w Instytucie Filozofii Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego. Zajmuje się teoriami utylitarystycznymi, zagadnieniem dobrostanu, szczęścia i przyjemności. Wspólnie z australijskim filozofem Peterem Singerem napisała dwie książki: The Point of View of the Universe ( OUP, 2014) oraz Utilitarianism: A Very Short Introduction (OUP, 2017).
