Streszczenie

Publikacja dotyczy przystosowania chorych do wybranych przewlekłych chorób somatycznych, takich jak cukrzyca, łuszczyca, reumatoidalne zapalenie stawów, przewlekła choroba nerek. Autorka wyodrębnia trzy grupy zmiennych konstytuujących proces przystosowania do choroby z uwzględnieniem jego uwarunkowań i efektu końcowego: zmienne wyjaśniające (subiektywne znaczenie choroby dla osoby chorej, wiedza na temat choroby), procesy pośredniczące (mediatory – sens życia, strategie radzenia sobie, korzyści związane z chorobą oraz moderatory – typ choroby, czas jej trwania) oraz zmienne wyjaśniane (akceptacja choroby i życia z nią, zdrowie psychiczne, bilans emocjonalny, zadowolenie z życia). Adaptacja rozumiana jako proces oraz przystosowanie jako efekt owego procesu zostały przeanalizowane z perspektywy psychologii pozytywnej, podkreślającej mocne strony osoby chorej, oraz psychologii poznawczej, ukazującej znaczenie procesów poznawczych w rozumieniu, a także przystosowaniu do choroby i związanych z nią uciążliwości i ograniczeń.
